Top 16 SNL Digital Short Videos

Mar 15th, 2007 - by Rodge Rockwell - Category: Hilarious Videos

Saturday Night Live has been on a steady decline in humor for years, but thanks to Andy Samberg and his crew from The Lonely Island they’ve resurrected the show with some good fresh humor. The past two seasons have featured the “SNL Digital Short” which is basically some digitally filmed skits created by Samberg and his cohorts.

Most likely you’ve seen some of the digital shorts either on the show or on the web such as the biggest hit Lazy Sunday. However, there is some genius to be witnessed in some of the lesser-publicized ones. Naturally, the Rodge is going to take it upon himself to rank them all in order and provide my take on it.

16. Sloths!
I don’t even really know what to say about this one. Weird, and kind of funny.

15. Peyote
A drug that makes life fun.

14. Lettuce
I’m hungry for some lettuce.

13. Andy Popping Into Frame
Not that great, but Will Forte popping in makes it good.

12. Ariel and Efrim
A music video about not cutting off Ariel and Efrim’s testicles.

11. Laser Cats
Who thought combining cats with lasers could be so funny? Wait, it’s not funny, but that’s what’s funny about it.

10. Laser Cats 2
Hey, adults love politics!

9. Cubicle Fight
Two men enter, only one man leaves.

8. MacGruber
If you remember Macgyver, you’ll love MacGruber. A 3-part series.

7. Body Fusion
A bit different since it doesn’t include Samberg, but some nice touches in this as it really grabs the essence of a 1986 aerobics tape with it’s graphics, music, and tape scratchiness. I thought this was going to be a different “Body Fusion” that I’ve seen once starring an all lady cast filmed in 1986 with the same soundtrack, but it wasn’t.

6. Doppleganger
So simple yet so genius. Did you know that JaQelvis Stylez doppleganger is Lorenzo Mata?

5. Business Meeting
Dwight Schrute adds a nice touch to this one, and the sheer randomness is good. My favorite part is that Mountain Tiger Head didn’t prepare for the meeting.

4. Young Chuck Norris
“And he kicked and punched with his hands and feet!”

3. Natalie Portman Rap
So unexpected from Natalie, and the play on Eazy-E is classic. Samberg in the viking outfit is also completely random.

2. Lazy Sunday
Pibb and Red Vines for everyone. The clip that sparked the love for the digital shorts.

1. Dick in a Box!
I know many would choose Lazy Sunday as the best, and while it is fantastic, “D-in-a-B” is the perfect storm. The presence and singing of Justin Timberlake brings a true musical talent to the video making it sound and look that much more real. Then the details are fantastic, the lyrics, the dancing, the outfits, the sultry looks from the ladies, the flower in the face, the sitting on the basketball hoop, the instructions on how to do it, and not to mention the song is catchy. The real reason it may be #1 to me though is that it’s near and dear to my heart, as numerous lady-friends have asked The Rodge for this very gift.

  10. Why don’t you link to the official NBC website? you can watch all of these there in higher quality than Youtube. it would just be right to support the creators now that they made the content available.
